Roderick Eugene Kellogg, 87, of Burlington, died Friday, April 26, 2024, at Bickford of Burlington in Burlington.

Born Oct. 19, 1936, at St. Luke’s Methodist Hospital in Cedar Rapids, he was the son of Wellington Everton and Mabel Lewis Kellogg. On Aug. 31, 1963, he married Marlys Welch in Waterloo.

He was a 1955 graduate of East High in Des Moines. After high school, he worked odd jobs until he started working for the State of Iowa D.O.T drivers licensing. Due to his dislike for his job, he decided to go to college to pursue a degree in education. While attending the University of Iowa, he applied for medical school. After graduating from the University of Iowa Medical School in 1964, he completed his internship at the Santa Clara County Hospital in San Jose, California. During his internship he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1965 and served for two years at Fort Leonard Wood. After his military service he returned to the University of Iowa to specialize in Urology. Dr. Kellogg joined Dr. Tjaden where they shared an urology practice for nearly thirty years. After his retirement, he was elected to the Burlington City Council and substitute taught at several area community schools.

Dr. Kellogg was involved with the Burlington Lions, Salvation Army, Hope Haven and donated to the Des Moines County Humane Society. He attended school sporting events and would volunteer his medical services. Rod joined the Hawkeye Boys State back in 1953, as his brother's did before him. He continued his involvement with the Boys State as a counselor for many years. He loved golf and was a member of the Spirit Hollow crew to fix divots. He had an interest in history and enjoyed traveling around the world to visit historical locations. He loved being around people and will be remembered for his sense of humor. 

Survivors include his loving wife of sixty years, Marlys Kellogg of Burlington; son, Lowell (Julia) Kellogg of Texas; daughter, Kathrine (Arthur) Kanneman of Mo.; granddaughter, Marlys Marie Kanneman; sister-in-law, Marlene Kellogg; nephew, Dr. Jeffrey Kellogg, D.O.; niece, Jeanette Kellogg and many great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, William and Robert Kellogg, and three nephews, Charles, Robert, and Jerry Kellogg.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to  11 a.m., Monday, May 6, 2024, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

The funeral service for Mr. Kellogg will be 11 a.m. Monday, May 6, 2024, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for the Des Moines County Humane Society, Hope Haven, Salvation Army and the Burlington Public Library.
